Heavily cemented rock result in zero flow of oil is correct, gas it is not so much of a problem.
The concerns on cement brings to mind an old Ameican drilling rule of thumb from the early 1920 or so. Back then they where using very basic drilling equipment.
So here the rule of thumb.
If the drill is easy above the reservoir target then the well will be dry, if the drilling is hard then the reservoir has oil or gas.
We now know that this difference in drilling penetration rates is related to the degree of cementing of the over lying rock (top seals). It appear that as all hydrocarbon accumulations leak (slowly) that the leaking oil or gas (or assoicted formation fluids) react with the over lying rock and help to cement up all the pore spaces.
Know I am not saying that the case with Valentine, just food for thought.
Next week or so should tell.
cheers
