"a gigabyte of storage cost $300,000 in 1981, compared with 10¢ today"

    Incredible shift in cost.

On another note - My father in-law spent over $50k Swiss Francs in either late 70's/early 80's buying a computer and software that would download and export the sales onto a new disc at the end of each day. He reckoned it would take 3-4 hours to download each night lol but removed the 2-3 hours of paperwork he had to do himself each night previously and effectively automated his business and accounting behind the scenes, even with annualised forward projections and all. He said it was a game changer that came at a huge cost. Software was really expensive then, think he said it cost either as much or even a little bit more than the computer itself. He was quick to adopt technology, nowadays he has multiple computers, phones etc cos he likes certain things on each different device lol. He's retired so it keeps him occupied I guess.

Could buy a second hand computer for $20 and download free software nowadays that will probably do 10,000 x times more than what his was capable back then. Technology knows no limits, pretty amazing really.
