    Neil, many of those same arguments would have sounded plausible a few years ago (e.g. 10GB data/month then was a decent monthly Fixed Broadband allowance, now it's just a modest MOBILE data allowance). The connection fee motivation etc. also applies now but people still want their fixed service.

    I'm not expecting 5G to be widely available until 2020, a fair way away. Telstra is presumably spruiking it because it's one of the few differentiators it can still point to.

    I'm open minded to your argument but (I am on a mobile (and Cable) business plan with Telstra) experience tells me that despite the continuous network upgrades I've always had to either watch my data (those pesky Telstra data limits) And/OR I've had to put up with network congestion.

    My biggest bugbear at the moment is mobile congestion. I accept that 5G will be an alternative for some and there may be a trend away from fixed but I remain sceptical that it'll be much more than a steady drip.
