I think LewisB hit the nail on the head for now. There are always whispers around stocks but when the main stream media start to report it as fact or "according to sources close to the matter"and the SP spikes, they have to suspend trading.
I guess the question is do you buy the rumour and sell the news? Our SP definitely went up after this story came out (trading around 75 cents at the time). It's 10.45 pm in Melbourne at the moment and Bloomberg are still carrying the story about a deal between the two companies.
The first report I heard this arvo (on Bloomberg) was that GWM shares on the Hong Kong stock exchange had been placed in a trading halt because of the Reuters' story. A quick poke around this evening came up with this Bloomberg article .
The last sentence is interesting:
"Great Wall’s Shanghai shares have been suspended from trading since late last month."
Don't know whether that is true or not.
