You're right of course, mirren (you usually are!). I hate reading nonsense and feel obliged to rationalise and explain - it gets the same reaction every time: loads of "don't understands but have loud opinions - and they're right" jumping up and down cheering on their team, hitting out and flinging insults at anyone who doesn't agree with their take on things.

I'm still embarrassed I bought shares in SGH, thinking the shorting had been overdone. It might well have been based on what was known at the time, but the sentiment was right and it just got steadily worse. It's not an excuse, but I allowed myself to be influenced - unusual for me. I was never expecting miracles, just a slow recovery to a price the numbers would have justified, which would have yielded a significant gain. Who could have predicted the UK PI environment would have gone against SGS, the directors would be so useless and the banks would behave as they did? Their actions in selling the debt for as little as they did could hardly have benefitted their own shareholders but I expect bonuses quickly resumed the following year - no reminders of those unfortunate loans; quickly gone forever; did anyone in the Banks lose their job? I've asked the question before, but what DD did the Banks do? People must have been relying on them as they were putting up so much.

Live and learn. Add it to the rest.

I was sorry to read of your difficulties, mirren and genuinely feel for you. If you feel you might ever want someone on the other side of the world (assuming you're in AU) to discuss anything with or act as a sounding board, let me know and I can give you a contact email. I'm not much of a danger at 66 and have had a lot of experience in life. I've had some testing personal times myself over the years, including a divorce 15+ years ago (went on for 7 years - I spent the whole time upside down having my pockets shaken out) that made 'War of the Roses' appear friendly. Kids eventually suss things out for themselves. Anyway, hope things turn out well for you in the end and you soon start seeing results for your patience.

    all the best
