Hi Rembrandt! Whats the dirty little secret?

Surely in a free country people can engage in groups and
any issue they wish within the law. Getup no doubt has all
sorts of people involved and there is no law that says so called
left inclined people are not permitted to participate.

I guess the fact it as an activist group on a range of social
issues it is likely to attract many people that hard right wingers
would tag as left. You are astute enough to realise that Rembrandt.
The righties have a habit of tagging everyone they see as a do-gooder
as being left.. The reality is the critics of Getup are political animals
themselves locked into Far Right politics themselves AND billionaires
such as some media moguls who themselves want to be the key influence
in politics. They resent large member based groups, do-gooders who
tend to advocate for people oriented causes rather than the elite.

Fighting xenophobia, racism, sexism and advocating for human rights
and environmental causes such as climate change are all worthy causes
and if thats what GetUp is doing it sounds good to me. Freedom to participate
and free speech within the law is at the core of a robust democracy.

IMO the attacks on GetUp will backfire and result in GetUp becoming more
    active and attracting more members.

Furthermore even Cory Bernardi has apparently set up a group that runs counter to GetUp.
Saw this in the Courier Mail:

"As the blame game for the election results continues among LNP members, South Australian senator, Cory Bernardi, has decided to establish a right-wing, conservative action group.
Bernardi has started conservative.org.au and urged those who “believe in limited government, traditional values, defending our culture and heritage, lower taxes, a stronger nation, a stronger economy and plain old common sense” to sign up.
Regarded as an antidote to GetUp! (a grassroots organisation that currently has over one million registered members and deals with issues such as social justice, economic fairness, health, education, and environmental sustainability), Bernardi’s initiative intends to “help change politics and give common sense a united voice”.”

Nothing wrong with Bernardi doing that just as nothing wrong with GetUp.

    cheers
