Why Study the Bible?, page-36

Yes, that's a pretty good summation.

They all like to disregard the caveats that trumps all their imaginings of the Bible and their rightness over other's wrongness and these are teachings that you constantly remind them of.

Do unto others. Love thy neighbour. Turn the cheek.

All the relative states of contradiction are human. We can only understand the world as a human. If God exists then we will never understand the world as God does, so if God were to advise us, guide us, counsel us, what would come out the other end is pure human understanding because everything has to be converted to our common denominator of humanness.

I love the Far Side cartoon, and the one in which a guy makes a translator to understand dogs. When they go bark, bark, bark, it translates as woof, woof, woof. When the good folk read the Bible and understand it like no other group, all they are doing is going woof, woof, woof.

So a Christian should never imagine that they understand the Bible in any context other than that of a flawed human. Take on board the overview of love and fellowship, that we are all equal and no individual or religion is special and then work to coexist and forgive and embrace each others idiocies.
