The Peak Hill regional area is situated 100 km north of Meekatharra and has a continuous history of gold discoveries and production dating from 1897 through to the present day. It is one of the four significant Proterozoic goldfields in Western Australia and a report on the Peak Hill area by Bromley & Company, consulting geologists, noted " Gold production and in-ground resources total in excess of 4 million ounces and actual production to date exceeds 2 million ounces of gold."
