“Pd205” “We don't need any overlaping...Hunter mentioned that several times (After talking to MM)”

“wagiant” – “Yes no overlapping for revenue generation”

I must say I have a different take on the ability of the current positioning of the 3D’s to be able to generate income. As I mentioned in a previous post, while I was attending at the Adelaide Space fest’ (68th IAC), I was talking with Maya Glickman-Pariente while she was actually making some minor adjustments to the 3D’s via her laptop.

As I said before, the 3Ds did not all have to function and overlap to provide the necessary testing to prove all that SAS set out to successfully prove. Also, there was never any intention to promote or entertain the possibility that the 3Ds would ever generate income from a 3rd party provider like Sat Space Africa. The 3Ds, deployed in a ‘polar’ orbit, were simply to enable testing and proving which could be and was successfully done with 2D’s only – the other (3rd diamond) being a ‘reserve’ in case one of the them unexpectedly failed in some way.

Late in the program, SatSpace unexpectedly came to SAS with the request to buy access to the 3Ds. Given there are only 3 x d’s, the connection time is restricted to only a limited time over the SatSpace network. - i.e. the time that the 3d’s take to pass over the African sectors that Sat Space provides coverage to its subscribers.

To maximize that short period with no gaps in transmission, the 3D’s do have to overlap (maximizing the total ground cover) so data is transferred seamlessly through all 3D’s without any breaks during that brief period. The main concern and want is that for any SAS customer, the service provided by SAS is to faultless and of the highest standard that only they will decide upon. Yes, once blue gets to overlap with green, then SAS will most likely proceed with the connectivity and revenue generation with SatSpace, when it deems ready to do so………………. and not before.

If by some chance this does not happen, from my point of view, it’s no big deal as the 3D’s were NEVER intended to generate income in the first place.

I was absolutely stoked to be at the launch night of the upgraded and 20x more powerful Pearl nanosat. Combined with the precise deployment capabilities provided by D-Orbit, accurate deployment of the Pearl nanosats should be a much faster process, meaning income generation is also fast-tracked.
