Channel 7 news tonight, on which Mainwaring was the sports presenter, as lead story devoted about 10 minutes to his death and the program after the news that masquerades as current affairs, about 20 minutes!

I doubt that had the Prime Minister been assassinated, it would have taken so much air time.

The big part of this story, one which few media outlets have revealed, especially Channel 7, is that Mainwaring's mate, drugie and former Eagles captain Ben Cousins was perhaps the last person to see Mainwaring alive. It has also been reported that Mainwaring had "personal issues" {his wife wanted to leave him} and that police were "looking at a drug connection" involvement in his death.

I suppose it will come out shortly, but I think his wife has left him, he has spat the dummy calling his good mate Cousins to go to his house and after Cousins left, Mainwaring has O-Deed on gear with the intension of taking his own life. But frankly you would have thought the Queen had been murdered here. Radio, TV, no doubt The West tomorrow and the internet is abuzz. I even got an email from a work colleague who was mates with him today, very upset.

Kinda says a lot I think that an ex footballer who kills himself has generated such public interest.

Dozens of blokes top themselves every week due to family breakup/marriage breakdown and it never rates a mention. The issue is rarely discussed.

Meanwhile, the west is on the verge of war with Iran, hundreds are being murdered by a vicious and despotic regime in Burma, {no mention of either by Channel 7 tonight} and Perth continues on its merry way.
