ever heard of Ron Barassi, he left Melbourne as captain after it had dominated for many years, arguably the game's premier player...went to Carlton which was in a very poor state at the time, gave them pride, belief...created a new golden era for the Blues.
History is repeating itself and those that say we are a long way from finals...that is wishful thinking. Guys like Murphy and Gibbs are future stars and will benefit from his guidance and another season or two of experience, there is no way Carlton will trade players like this. I just hope they don't pay Judd so much they can't afford to keep these guys in the future when they become guns.
Hopefully they will deal pick 3 plus pick 20 or pick 3 and maybe a WA player (I hope they keep Kennedy but who knows).
Pies shouldn't be too disappointed, they already have a good team and he may disrupt their unity, it may be best to have missed out. But Carlton has nothing to lose at this point.
If people hate Carlton for this, I say good, better to be hated and respected than pitied!
