My biggest problem with Justin is that his job is to produce returns better than the market. The fact that ALF is a directional fund means he can take a view about markets going up, down or staying steady while also being able to benefit from picking the right stocks. So far he has failed miserably on all counts since he has completely failed at calling the strong bull market we've had and also failed to correctly pick stocks to produce returns. A market neutral fund is supposed to still produce returns irrespective of market direction as a result of correct stock picks. If you're not getting stock picks right the obvious question is why are you getting paid a (mis)management fee. ALF is not even a market neutral fund so the fact that he has maintained a market neutral stance is actually his own fault! As far as capital protection is concerned, we have all lost capital and now also starting to lose patience.
