Of the 1000 U hopefuls, not many currently have enough U resource identified to even consider going into production. The endless companies spruiking their 5m lb resource at 200ppm will never get past go because the resource is no way near big enough or good enough. That accounts for 900 of the 1000 U hopefuls already. Many have already switched their focus to Gold and Iron ore.
The number of pure U specs is actually quite small. In Aust - PDN/SMM, MTN, CUY, BMN, SIM, PEN (now pushing gold though), AGS (though also gold, will produce U), PNN (though also nickel - will produce), CMR, ERO, BLR, WMT, AEX (though not really serious about anything!), Azure .
Several others have changed their focus to other resources and are no longer actively promoting U exploration.

Though there are about 1000 companies that have declared they are exploring for U when it was fashionable, only a few are actually serious about it and dependant on it and there is room most of these to survive.
Several others are not at all advanced and will never produce unless they hit an amazing resource. DON'T invest in those.
