I really like the fact that Phosphagenics has partnered with Terumo to develop a TPM/propofol formulation enhanced with TPM. With a joint patent already filed for the product (announced yesterday), TPM/propofol's future looks promising.

Propofol is a very high profile drug and not just because it is known as the drug which killed Michael Jackson. First launched as Diprivan in 1989, propofol’s rapid onset/rapid offset action has helped it become the most widely used iv general anaesthetic to induce and maintain anaesthesia. The propofol market continues to experience robust growth as its use in surgical and diagnostic procedures increases. As well as being used for general anaesthesia, propofol is also used for conscious (twilight) sedation for patients undergoing diverse procedures such as mechanical ventilation, radiation therapy, diagnostic procedures such as breast biopsy, endoscopy and MRI and other common procedures in dermatology, plastic and dental surgery.

Dependent on what it is being used for, its administration requires delivery devices such as needles, catheters, IV solutions, syringes, pre-filled syringes and infusion and syringe pumps. And Terumo is a recognised world leader in development and supply of such delivery devices.

I see TPM/propofol has having the potential to be a solid win/win for both partners.
