a small mention of Tawana and BHP

Perlman: Now, the Aussies are interested in our diamond mines, they are fishing around in the Northern Cape, I believe.

Creamer: They are working on this model, which worked very well in Australia. Once you have a very big diamond prospect, the theory holds that downstream of that there will be other prospects through the erosion of diamonds over millions of years. That theory proved successful downstream of Argyle at Bow River in Australia. The same person who used that model in Australia is now applying the theory in the Northern Cape and they are looking 6km downstream of the great Finsch mine, the De Beers mine in the Northern Cape, a very big operation. The Australian company, Tawana Resources, is partnered by the big BHP Billiton, which has done over-flying airborne surveys that have pinpointed potential prospects. Tawana Resources is quoted on the Australian Stock Exchange and it has already struck up an empowerment partnership with black South African company, Seven Falls Trading, which is headed by the former Northern Cape MEC Thabo Makweya. They should have some results before the end of the year, in fact, the first results of their drilling should be available this month and next month, and these will give some idea of the scope. The Australians are hoping that the targets that have been indicated by the airborne survey will bear fruit. They are thinking that this could be a “company maker” and they are hoping for a second Finsch-type mine to be developed by Tawana Resources in the Northern Cape, downstream of the big De Beers operation.
