Quantum cryptography to be used in Switzerland elections


Switzerland will be using quantum cryptography technology come October 21st for its parliamentary elections.

Excerpt from Network World:

Still considered an area of advanced research, quantum cryptography uses photons to carry encryption keys to secure communications over fiber-optic lines and can automatically detect if anyone is trying to eavesdrop on a communications stream.

The quantum cryptography system that will be used this time round is made by id Quantiqu, a Swiss company. The device will be used to secure the link between the central ballot-counting station and a government data center.
