watso also checked out the corned beef in the coles meat section - they seemed to have a premium product for $12/kg (seemed to have all the yum yum fat cut off), and a cheaper product for $9 /kg (probably the equivalent of the aldi product)

I wouldn't buy any meat with the fat cut off. Just the opposite, I have a piece in the fridge for tonight and it has a good layer of fat on one side. I'll chop up half a cabbage and cook in a little butter with mashed spuds.
and make a mustard sauce...with meat water.
