They owe $39M to Orion of which a very large chunk is due by Christmas.
If they don't get the funds it's lights out.

It makes perfect sense that it takes a lot of time to convince a lender why they can pay them back when they can't pay back Orion...

You're quite right, they haven't stopped digging the gold.

But if they keep digging at a loss of $400 per ounce, the digging will eventually stop.

Don't have to be an expert. Just gotta read the quarterlies and then compare the figures with the garbage dished up by the company. Then you can chose where the truth lies.
