QIN had inventory of 2850kg, and couldn't sell it to anyone except young living, with whom they already had an agreement to buy at $4500kg over the next few year. To get them to take more they had to discount the product 33%, extinguishing the next few years of supply at that price.

If they could have sold it at even USD2000/kg, they should have done so - because Young Living would have paid 4500/t next year - so a tonne at $2k plus a tonne at $4500 is a blended price of $3250/tonne.
