well the US went into recession post 9/11 (or close enough) and had to drop interest rates to ridiculous levels to revive the economy, Europe stagnated for much of the past 10 years, Asia had a financial meltdown 10 years ago.....we weathered all these storms beautifully.
Admittedly much is out of our govts control, but what has been within their control has been well managed, so we have not seen the cyclical boom/busts of the past.
