Porcine islet cell transplant? I've always imagined that this is how they would eventually cure Type I diabetes. Just awesome to see successful transplants in patients without autoimmune or graft vs host rejection.
For the non medically educated, islet cells are found in the Islets of Langerhans, the exocrine portion of the pancreas. The exocrine portion is involved in release of hormones i.e. insulin into the bloodstream.

Just incredible really... diabetes is the worlds fastest growing disease - I think the last WHO figure quoted was over 300mn.
