cortis in the past people voted more for the liberal party than they did for Howard but this time it has become a battle of the leaders.
The poor performance of the federal Labor party over the past decade, their poor choice of leaders and their inability to counter Howards wedge politics helped the Libs get elected and re-elected.
This time Howard and the Libs are up against a better organized and presented opposition plus the fact that people like a change every so often. The Libs have also upset many in the electorate by moving significantly to the economic right over the past three years and also embracing the religious right.
Labor has maintained it's usual position of just slightly left of centre and avoided being seen as dominated by any particular religion.
