I'm quite interested in your comment here @FlashFish, as I have considered this myself in the past, but only as an intra-day trade. Otherwise (or even for intra-day) how do you convince the tax-man that you haven't triggered a CGT event?
Have you ever done this as a multi-day short?
Has anyone seen a precedent / ruling from the ATO about shorting your own shares? I couldn't find one when I looked before. Thanks!
