    this is purely coincidental, I was in town today and went to a chemist to find something for an extremely stubborn case of tinea.
    The pharmicist after determining that most off the shelf products had failed so far, mixed up a lotion that would help remove the dead skin and expose the layers below to which an off the shelf preparation would be applied.
    As part of the strategy to kill off the infection he gave me a full strength solution of formaldehyde which is to be applied to the foot and left on for 8 hours. This causes the sweat glands to shut down which will help keep the foot dry and provide a less receptive environment for the fungus to survive in.
    He didn't have any great concerns about it being toxic or dangerous if I followed his instructions.
    I am now wondering if the stories about clothing from China being toxic due to formaldehyde are being sensationalised by the media and being blown out of all proportion.
