I agree, im sure they don't wake up to free wifi. I have been in many Asian countries and the connections can be poor, I only spent a short time in indonesia so cant really comment but my view saw asian people sitting around looking at phones like you see here I know at least gaming in the Philippines is huge many, and buying lives to get in ahead of friends. It is just a fact of life connections are weak, common sense when you look at the populations they are not all be sitting in free ( eg you need to buy a coffee) wifi shops. Also remember these networks are also growing and getting better. 900 people are born in the Philippines every day and as a people technology hungary, money pouring into those countries from the US, Australia etc for parts and call centres etc has many with a disposable income, we buy chinese not there, they now have a taste for quality (middle class). There is still a very poor population in the millions but also millions who are middle class just look at the vehicles on the roads they have stopped using traffic lights to keep the traffic flowing, alternate days for odd an even number plates, All that traffic and only half on the roads half, trucks are only able to travel into the city at night. One thing I can say for sure they do use their phones at home and its not for making phone calls. The Mall of Asia had over 1mill shop there last christmas eve if they can shop in a mall they use data (Lacoste,Jordano,Armarni, Michale Cores, Coach just to name a few stores) and thats just one shopping centre try finding any of those store in Adelaide. Take my Brother (Dell) and sister (Employment agency for major worldwide companies) in law each earn more than many Australians but like many are thrifty with their cash, don't under estimate Freeway Overpass in Asia.
