Mmm. I don't know about that.
If a government were to do that, it would mean that I/We could completely operate outside their financial visibility and structure... and that means they couldn't collect taxes on said crypto currency.
Fundamentally, bitcoin is a giant middle finger to governments and traditional financial structures. If "the people" were to choose to trade only in bitcoin (or the like), there's little either can do.
