To be fair – there seem to be valid points on both sides. Laterite is more expensive to mine than sulphides. From what I have briefly read and maybe I read wrong, Murrin Murrin has a breakeven cost of about US9000 tonne or US4 per lb (I think it has a 1.07% grade). Looking at the nickel charts, the price of nickel has dipped below this a couple of times for relatively short periods over the past 10 years so there is a possibility of production not covering costs.
However, given that production from sulphide deposits would appear to have flat-lined on a global basis whilst consumption continues to increase, the odds of the price staying above that break-even point would appear good for the future – assuming that this company can achieve the same processing economics and get it funded. (imo dyor etc etc)
