    THEIR choice comes with strings attached, its called Australian aid. So choices of the PNG government often need to weigh up other influences.

    If you were a villager, sure you'd agree to mining if you were living in poverty. Is that a choice? I don't think so. I think they'd much rather aid to help them grow their crops, increase tourism than have machinery humming all day around their ears for years on end so that they can get that hut they always wanted. Its akin to renting the lone property sitting between the railway and the highway at a dirt cheap price not because you have a choice but because you dont have a choice.

    In an ideal world you would not need to argue the mining of a country is a good thing so that people can live a humane life. Unfortunately it is not an ideal world, so yes companies can use the 'mining for the people' mantra. And I'm not opposed to that just saying that there are better ways to help people, but due to greed of govenrments or lack of interest, often these people have no choice but to accept their fate.
