Watchdog clears Iran of US nuclear weapon claims
ABC Online
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has found no evidence that Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons.
The finding is contained in a confidential report which has been leaked to news agencies by diplomats in Vienna, where the IAEA is based, Reuters reported.
The report does say Iran has dabbled in activity often associated with nuclear arms, like plutonium production.
Despite finding no hard evidence of a nuclear weapons program in Iran, the IAEA says it is not ready to say the country's research work is exclusively peaceful.
Just before the report was leaked, Iran announced that it was going to allow inspectors into the country to make random checks of its nuclear facilities.
