"I can see nuclear becoming a more palatable option"

I can't - I read a paper on wind wave and sun providing global energy needs of globe for around year 2030, provided only policy could be settled (tech was okay already according to paper) that dismissed nuclear as viable (think it was to do with the problems of waste disposal, public reactions post accidents in Russia and Japan and cost of producing and maintaining plants and perhaps having enough engineers), but I'm open to the alternative view.

Why would nuclear become more palatable? Desperation? Shortage of sufficient land for enough wind and solar?
