    The variety of beliefs using scripture as a source reinforces the idea that the bible is far from clear on important questions like the nature of God/Jesus/the Holy spirit and of salvation.

    Yes, I do make the claim for universal salvation based on biblical principles - I recently posted a link to a website that looks at the bible from Genesis to Revelation on the topic. This website makes a far better job of supporting the position than I could do.

    Yes, I don't think that "orthodox Christian beliefs" support universal salvation, and adherents will quote scripture to support their positions.

    At the end of the day with all the conflicting positions each claiming authority from scripture, I'm left with deciding what I think makes the most sense. And right now I think that universal salvation makes the most sense if the God of the bible exists in the first place.
