Parmenio,i agree with just about everything you say...but to suggest this situation is exclusively the responsiblity of the current government doesn't ring true for me....and I'm not debating this on a party basis. The truth is this situation has been part of the Aussie landscape for many years. And I agree that education is paramount, but in reality we are always going to have a community not only with a percentage of unskilled labour.... but absolutely requiring a percentage of unskilled labour. They too deserve a fair go.
On a slightly different part of the issue, heres an example.I know a bloke who is the manager of quite a substantial bar comlplex on the Gold Coast.. he works bloody hard and takes home about $920 a week. I figure this equates to an annual salary of around ....say...$58000?. His wife is at home looking after a couple of kids.... so with rental costs here, along with everyday living costs you wouldn't have to be real bright to figure that he doesn't have a lot of room to move... and while it could be argued that maybe he should have gone to uni for a better education, the fact is someone has to do these jobs....or maybe he should be paid more...then the price of beer has to go up to compensate....and the buck gets passed back to the everyday toiler....getting giddy yet? Don't want to confuse the issue here, but i'm figuring you know where I'm coming from.
