I think the point of my original post has been lost to some degree...all I am saying is that if a burger shop is running successfully...and paying its staff $17 an hour...then has to front up with $21 an hour the sums just don't add up( the staff may well and truly deserve $21 an hour by the way)This has little to do with education because there will always be people needed to do this type of work,everyone can't be an academic or in the upper echelons.The suggestion that ANY government would WILFULLY denegrate its own citizens(in the western world anyway) just doesn't cut it for me.
