Note that RIO has rejected the offer from BHP. So what is most likely to happen is BHP makes hostile bid.
This is likely to get messy and if BHP really wants RIO it will have to pay a very high price.
RIO will go to its shareholders and say they doubled the share price in the last 12 months and are likely to do so again in the next 12 (even if this is talk anly), so why sell at anything less.
Will be very interesting to see how this develops.
