I think putting Barnaby Joyce in charge of infrastructure is a move with wide reaching implications.

Surely he will try to get better road and rail infrastructure to regional areas. He's already tried to get government departments to move to regions. That can be expected to continue.

The Nats are hopping mad at the banking situation where decent people got well and truly shafted by the banks, and they need to shore up their base, firstly by having the banking RC and secondly by stimulating the regions with infrastructure improvements. The cities are groaning with population pressures. Melbourne and Sydney are overdue for high speed rail connections, and underground rail. Whether Joyce can see those needs is a moot point. He's no genius. IMO
