I think scientyists or engineers like to go on and explain the science to the nth degree to show how great it is and how technical. Unfortunately after the first 25 minutes most non scientists just glaze over and start nodding. Some of th e best sales people I've seen sometimes dont even mention the product they are selling for the first part of the negotiation, they spend the time finding out what the client wants or needs. Only then do they try to work out how to package their product to appeal to the client's wants and needs. They need to create the want in the client first. I suspect previous directors may have spent too much time explaining how great the science was and maybe forgotten to ask the client what they actually want. I got that feeling with the imyc data packs in that we were creating data packs we thought were awesome, rather than finding out what potential interested parties (if there were any) actually wanted.
