You always should follow your investments no matter how much money you have invested. Leaving an investment alone in the hope that it will 'blossom' again at a later stage whilst not keeping an eye on it is just crazy imo.

Using your analogy of a girlfriend, just say that I didn’t keep tabs on my girlfriend and she started to stray by hooking up with other guys, but I don’t care because one day I will marry her because I know she was good in her day. But im secretly hoping that she will stop all of her sleeping around and come good agaib.. Do you see how dumb that sounds?

Buying and selling on the hope of getting it cheaper is what share trading/investing is all about! Personally I have been out of the stock from 10 minutes after the drill results were released. A stop loss saved my bacon and a lot of profit. So even if I decided to enter back in now I would still be over 45c per share in front. You tell me if that’s smart investing or not??

For all you people out there whinging and complaining that the stock is falling due to bad management etc, look at a long time view of the chart then tell me, does it technically look healthy at the moment? Could this be the why the SP is declining? A LOT of people use a combination of the both technical and fundamental analysis to invest. Why would a technical person drop their money into UMC at the moment when you can clearly see it is in a downward trend no matter how strong the fundamentals are. I certainly wouldnt!

Too many people invest solely on Fundamental Analysis, Fundamental Analysis is great if your in it for the long term, imo 1 year +. There are quite a few people here that invest for long term, those are the sort people have nothing to fear. The MACD is looking as though the decline is starting to plateau. It will drop further from here, but wont be anywhere near the 38c it was back in July/August. So all you long termers fear not, the technical charts will soon turn. SP prices rise, SP prices fall, that’s what happens in the share market, look at where all those people would be now if they bought 1 year ago!

If you feel as though UMC is undervalued at the moment (I certainly do) and you want a long term investment (1 year +) then buy at these levels and leave it. Lets see where the SP is this time next year!
