To add to your comments, I also agree that ERG will put a plan forward that will be accepted by the NSW Government. We'll find out on 30 November, AFTER the AGM.

If I awas ERG, I would also try to convince my client to wait until the San Francisco Rail system is fully tested and then install it onto the Sydney trains.

That will eliminate the vast majority of system defects before the system reaches Sydney. It will serve the Government a favour as it will minimise the opposition from the unions and the Liberal party, as it will give them less ammunition to criticise the government for.

One question that remains is whether the NSW government will accept to simplify the fare structure. Given that most of the business rules are burried in the code that runs the current system, I would doubt that there is much to argue about. A union representative was quoted last year saying that the key to the implementation is held by Cubic. That's the business rules for the current fare structure. Without those business rules no system can be built and the definition of the business rules is largely the responsibility of the client.

It also makes sense to follow the same path ERG has followed in San Francisco. Implementation of the Bus system first and the the rail system.

The bus trials are currently happening. If that goes well, there will be evidence of progress and cancellation of the Contract wouldn't make sense at this point. If that happens it will attract the worst critism the NSW government ever had.

If ERG stuffs up with the current bus trials then good luck to the next vendor.
