I assunme that you are talking about 457 visas? Where did you get that figure of 1 million per year? I think there might now be around 100,000 in total.

Where did you get the idea that they were all on low wages?

Here is an extract from a recent Immigration department newsletter

"... Immigration department deputy-secretary, Abul Rivzi, believes the growth of 457 visas will slow next year as higher salaries are making it "uneconomic" to hire foreigners.

Rivzi said the base salary for workers on 457 visas has risen to $71,800 in the first quarter of 2006/07, up from $66,000 for 2005/06. "
