harvey, I don't accept that the US and it's allies hold the only franchise for "quality of the idea" or "willingness of the heart".
It all depends on what point in history you happen to settle on to draw examples from. There is hardly anything that other people around the world have done that the Americans haven't done themselves at one time or another. It's just that it is happening now and we know about it instead af being buried, perhaps after being rewritten, in some history book that we have forgotten about.
Remember the Indians, slavery, the civil war, Hiroshima, Vietnam, the CIA,assasinated presidents, J Edgar Hoover, mafia, prohibition etc etc.
I believe that there is little difference between people anywhere irrespective of their ethnic, cultural, religious or political background. All that differs is the timeframe of the circumstances they have to work their way through.
I don't see any reason that any number of other nations cannot take on the role that the US currently plays with the same "honorable" intentions.
History shows that other advanced civilisations with highly refined systems of government and education have been and gone.
To assume that the US is the only one that can provide leadership for the rest of the world is what is causing the problems now and will be the eventual undoing of itself.
