The area of Coalgate and Glentunnel is probably a "green' leaning area . I visit Darfield nearby and that is continuous dairy trucks going to Fonterras Dairy factory. Whilst it brings work and prosperity to the area there will be others who oppose the trucking. Likewise the trucks for the coal.
It was a similar argument in Westport some 12 years ago when the port was shipping 250,000 tonnes of coal out in a year ,because of the shortage of rail wagons at the time coal was shipped to Lyttelton by barge. The coal was being trucked to the port. The locals complained of the noisy trucks etc.Yet the mine was giving employment to locals!
I see Stuff had to bring up the pollution problem from 3 years ago, putting the boot in !
Hopefully Bathurst will prevail, Selwyn Council are not easy to deal with , they out source consents requests to outside contractors.
