Is the IBM-Maersk JV competition or opportunity?
IMO it would be opportunity. An opportunity to participate (if invited) and an opportunity to collaborate with IBM/Maersk competitors.
Being realistic (just for a moment) can YOJ really compete (against UPS, DHL, FedEx) by offering software to create competitive supply chains (technically yes, practically - not financially viable) OR are they better offer to collaborate with all participants to create "extended networks" by being an interoperable platform with their own IP blend of AI and analytics.
Just the savings in documentation and admin (and import/export have the most complicated but in places like India transporting goods across a state border is as simple as just driving across the bridge at Albury/Wodonga) make this solution worthwhile. And the more open and standardized (e.g. built on blockchain) the more appealing to solution to those who pay for it.

For me that's where the rubber meets the road - how well will the platform enable, network and interoperate with everything else out there while earning a profit.
Yojee also elaborated on the risks in its prospectus ... in the end most of it is open source code. The advantage lies in understanding how its all put together. There is IP involved (e.g. ther APIs) and I agree "unlikely" to have anything patented at this stage (or ever for that matter).
Its an evolving story.
