Jack, it's really quite simple. Unis are places of robust discussion, or at least they were in my day. It's the nature of young people to be progressive. That's why unis are traditionally "left wing" For most, conservatism comes with age so your niece and nephew should just stand up for themselves. Despite your misgivings, most academics welcome constructive debate. It's what unis are all about.
