Saint, the reality is, the Libs will lose the 2010 election no matter whom they put up there; so, it'd be wiser to sacrifice someone with less talent than that of Turnbull.
As a first possible scenario, they might well put Abbott in there just so that the small "l" libs can prove to the party that extremist religious bigots don't cut it with the Oz people and so, immediately after those elections they promote Turnbull -with Bishop as Deputy. That will give an untainted Turnbull the opportunity to become better known by the electorate and to promote a more sensible (rather than hard ideologue) set of policies. The same with Nelson. The Deputy in both these cases looks like being Andrew Robb, another hard line big "L" Lib.

But then, again, my memory throws up dire visions of poor Gough who had nothing but trouble from the moment he stepped into parliament, though this time around, I doubt there could be a repeat of the '75 Kerr-Fraser slimery and the Anthony/Senate disgrace.
