banjar, you're garbling my meaning!
Just uttering a word doesn't clear a conscience. Undoing, rectifying the wrongs -all the wrongs, does.
Conscience is the most important element of a person's psyche. Stuff it up and you've got a nobody; a walking dead. It's how the Libs looked for the last 11 years. No conscience. Just the utterance of a word: economy!
Yes, my conscience is vitally important to me. It's my breath and blood; and I would like to feel that I'm walking not amongst the dead but amongst the living. What our predecessors did was unconscionable and our current generation of pollies are continuing this unconscionable attitude and behaviour and give strength to the racists and bigots and those bloodless walking dead, to continue in their miserable way.
It's time to clear our conscience by working on reparation and reconciliation.
It's time we shed the weight of guilt that our predecessors foisted upon our shoulders. It is one thing to invade a country; it is yet another, a far more odious thing to work to eradicate its inhabitants, to torture them, to destroy their identity, their culture, their dignity. All these atrocities rebound on the perpetrator.
