If you run off the side of a road, over correcting to the other side of the road does not mean that on the average everything is okay, and that we can forgive ourselves for running off the road in the first place and almost killing those with us.
The best way to compensate those whose lives you put at risk is to carefully steer back onto the road again and ensure that we continue to move steadily in the right direction, with the danger you put everyone in, something that remains on your conscience so that you don't let the same mistake happen again.
