I think I follow you, basically the term Market Maker has taken on a slightly different meaning than it’s original discription. If I understand you correctly the MMs can be considered the large financial players (Brokers, Instos, Other) that can move the price due to volume they trade or simply the tactics they use? And they can choose to do this as sort of manipulation to lure in buyers or sellers instead of making money from having a tradition “spread”

It is confusing for me because when I see a broker report the majority of volume is through a retail brokerage system like Commsec so I just assume the the MM role is deminished due to supply/demand coming from retail.. but I suppose the MMs have much more power during times of little volume where they can move the price around?

These guys are the same ones that employ bots to move the price I suppose?
