The strange mix resides within the electorate by virtue of both the entrenched entitlement mentality and the wanting to feel good factor through virtue signaling. In other words having their cake and eating it too. It won't matter which party is in power, they both need to appeal to the same constituents.
Accelerating the rush to renewables will just further de-industrialise the country and send everyone broke. Our competitors know that you can't have expensive power and high wages together hence the number of coal fired power stations either under construction or in the planning stages around the world. These high efficiency units will have a life expectancy of several decades, or perhaps longer, and some will be designed to use Australian coal to further increase the efficiency, making their electricity even cheaper. Thats how many countries are protecting their future by moving up the ladder quicker than those around them by providing abundant, reliable and cheap power.
