Ok, someone should....
nothings free, the R stood for Rights.
There was a renounceable rigths issue.
This meant, intead of qualifying to participate in the rights issue by holding parent stock by the rec date, you could pay a premium (the rights) and then take part in the rights issue.
Instead of say 2 for 5, you buy 1 right, you get 1 what ever they're offering, but you still have to pay. You just pay the rights premium to participate.
