MUMS are turning to goat’s milk formula for babies in growing numbers
Annual sales in Australia have risen from about $3 million to $105 million in four years, according to Nielsen and IMS Health data, the Herald Sun reports.
Ben Dingle, chief executive of Nuchev, which makes the Oli6 brand, said goat’s milk had “many unique properties” and promoted gut health. The category now comprises almost 10 per cent of the nation’s overall infant formula market.
Mr Dingle’s business sources goat’s milk from the Netherlands, but plans to start milking 6000 goats at a farm in Lara within two years. “One of the reasons we are setting up our own milk supply is to ensure we can continue to meet the growing demand,” he said.
Mother Emma Bowler, from Dingley Village, switched to goat’s milk formula for her six-month-old daughter, Kelsey.
“She had a lot of colic and reflux and was getting a lot of wind, so I wanted to find a formula that was gentle on her tummy,” Mrs Bowler said.
